The area
Climbing, wine, wild valleys and the coast — a base for the whole region, not just the house.
Four landscapes most rentals near Siurana can’t offer at once, all inside about forty minutes: a DOQ wine region — one of only two in Spain — a limestone crag among Europe’s best climbing, a massif with waterfalls and swimming holes when the crag itself runs dry, and a coastline of small, clear-water coves. The map below shows where each of them sits; what follows is what’s actually there once you arrive.

Wine and food in the Priorat
Cellars cut into terraced slate, forty minutes away. Priorat is one of only two wine regions in Spain with DOQ status — the other is Rioja. The eating is just as serious: our own favourite is Brots, a small chef-owned restaurant in Poboleda. Beyond it — Ca La Peirona in Vilaplana, family-run since 1999, for game and traditional Catalan cooking; La Nau in Alforja for an easy tapas lunch; Lo Refugi in Cornudella de Montsant, where the climbers and runners eat; and El Celler de l’Arbocet in Riudoms for the occasion that calls for it.
Book ahead; most bodegas are small family operations, not visitor centres.
More →The Montsant, year-round
Endless secret valleys with special places — falls, swimming holes, the Margalef river, cliffs, stone features and caves. It can get windy, but with good planning there are always places to run or walk here, every day of the year.
The one weak season is high summer — dry and hot on the massif itself. The water is in the valleys, not up top; for swimming in summer, the Gorgs are the better answer. Winter brings wildflowers through those same valleys.
More →Climbing at Siurana
One of the best climbing places in Europe — Kai’s own words, and the region’s biggest single draw. Roughly 2 hours running or fast hiking, door to crag, or drive it — the time is on the home page’s signpost. Most rentals near Siurana are in Cornudella and can’t say that.
Closer beds to the crag exist. This is the only one you can walk to. The 2-hour figure is Kai’s own pace, running these trails himself, so treat it as a fast two hours. What the house adds beyond the walk-in is a pool and a sauna to come back to.
More →Trail running on the Montsant
A guide Kai made himself, not a list of suggestions — his own routes, run and built by him, 19 of them from a standard 10k out the door to the full 100k UTSM circuit around Montsant. Every route has one thing that makes it worth doing.
Three: Alforja Ridges (“nothing for companions — best find some other plans”), the Puigcerver tempo route (“nada”), and Pont del Diable (“loads — a very nice park, the aqueduct is legendary”). Kai doesn’t oversell the ones that don’t have it. The full guide and the routes themselves are for booked guests — see the manual once you’re signed in. Training camps can have any of them adapted for a group, on request.
More →The coast south of Cambrils
Small, clear-water coves — not the wide sandy beach the name Salou suggests.
Salou itself is best for a summer night out.
More →Seafood in Cambrils
The anchor for the coast, not the sidekick to Salou.
Quieter, and where the fishing boats still land the lunch.
More →PortAventura
The big day out for families with older children.
Go on a weekday and start at opening.
More →Gorgs del Febró
Waterfalls and swimming holes in the Prades mountains — amazing in the summer, Kai’s own words, and exactly when the Montsant itself runs dry.
Ask us for the best access point before you go.
More →Tandem paragliding, off the ridge opposite
The mountain across the valley is a registered flying site, and in summer there are wings above it most days. Tandem flights go from Arbolí, ten minutes away.
Weather decides it, and pilots confirm the day before.

Before you plan the week
If you are mainly looking for a beach holiday, it’s not the place for you — but great beaches are about 30 minutes away.
