More about the pool

A private pool set into stone terraces, with lounge seating and sail shade for the midday sun. It is at its best when the water runs a little cooler, even in the middle of winter, paired with the sauna right above it — hot, then cold, then hot again. A lot of people come here specifically for that cold plunge.

In the middle of a Catalan summer, the property does not get the humidity the coast has — there is often a breeze, and dropping in for a few minutes keeps you properly cool for an hour, even through a heatwave. Snow on the water is rare here, once every couple of winters, but the pool runs all year regardless of whether it snows.

The pool on its stone terrace, with loungers and a parasol.

It is 7.3 metres long and 2.3 wide, and the floor slopes the whole way rather than stepping down — 70 centimetres at the shallow end, about 1.2 in the middle, 1.4 at the deep end. There is one ladder, at the shallow end. It is open rather than fenced, and it will stay that way, so children here are watched by the people who came with them. The cover will not hold a person’s weight: it is there to keep the heat and the leaves out, and it is not a floor, which matters most with anyone small.

Snow like this is rare — once every couple of winters. The pool runs all year either way.
